We'd been planning this trip for over a year, and honestly, Kashmir exceeded every expectation we had. Travelling with two young kids (ages 5 and 8) can be tricky, but from the moment we landed in Srinagar, everything just fell into place. Gulmarg was our first stop and the gondola ride had the kids screaming with excitement the snow-capped peaks all around us felt almost unreal. We spent a whole afternoon just playing in the snow near Phase 1, building the world's worst snowman and laughing till our cheeks hurt. Doodhpathri was the surprise of the trip. Hardly any crowd, just endless green meadows with a gentle stream running through. The kids took off their shoes and waded in while my wife and I just sat there, breathing it all in. No WiFi, no noise, just us and the mountains. That one afternoon felt more restful than any fancy resort holiday we've ever taken. Sonmarg was the grand finale and it delivered. The drive itself along the Sindh river valley is something I'll never forget every turn felt like a new wallpaper. We did the short pony ride to Thajiwas Glacier and even our little one managed it like a champ. The glacier was breathtaking, and the kids couldn't believe they were touching ice in the middle of summer. What really made this trip special was how warm and welcoming everyone was from the shikara wala in Dal Lake to the local chai shop owner in Doodhpathri who gave our kids extra bread with honey. Kashmir isn't just beautiful, it's the kind of place that makes your family slow down and actually be together. We're already talking about going back. If you're on the fence about taking your kids to Kashmir, just go. You won't regret it.
